Enhancing the quality of support conversations
We trained staff and volunteers to boost the quality of their mentoring conversations with service users by aligning their style and approach with Porchlight's ethos and service outcomes i.e. treating people respect and dignity, building self esteem, encouraging self care and developing positive choices.
Mentoring processes and skills were aligned with sector competences for impact to be monitored and evaluated more easily, and mentor supervision implemented more effectively.
Staff were trained in how to hold effective peer to peer support conversations, so internal resource and expertise would become self sustaining. Managers also received coaching skills training so they could implement more effective development reviews, and build greater internal capability and improve delivery.
